Calcium Fluoride

Calcium Fluoride is white colored insoluble solid having chemical formula CaF2 with molar mass of 78.07 g/mol and density 3.18 g/cm3. It finds application in manufacturing of windows & lenses, spectroscopy, and telescopes as well. This is an inorganic compound which possesses thermoluminescence property. It is known to have low refractive index which eliminates or minimizes need for anti-reflection coatings. Calcium Fluoride can easily be produced by treatment of calcium carbonate with hydrofluoric acid. It is insoluble in acetone & water and has high boiling & melting points of 2533 & 1418 degrees Celsius respectively. 

Calcium fluoride (CaF2) is an insoluble ionic compound of calcium and fluorine. It occurs naturally as the mineral fluorite (also called fluorspar), and it is the source of most of the world's fluorine.
